§ 01 · Lineage of Light

By whose authority
do we stand?

The work of the Nation of Islam descends through a chain of teachers — each carrying the message forward without break. Mosque No. 78 receives its instruction through this living tradition.

I. Master W. Fard Muhammad
The Founder

MasterW. Fard Muhammad

Appeared in Detroit, Michigan on July 4, 1930. The Great Mahdi — the One whose coming was prophesied by the prophets of old. Teacher of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

II. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad
The Messenger

The Most HonorableElijah Muhammad

Born in Sandersville, Georgia. Met Master Fard Muhammad in 1931 and led the Nation of Islam for over forty years — author of Message to the Blackman and How to Eat to Live.

III. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan
The National Representative

The Honorable MinisterLouis Farrakhan

Born Louis Eugene Walcott in The Bronx, New York. The student of Elijah Muhammad who, in 1977, undertook the rebuilding of the Nation. Convener of the Million Man March.

§ 02 · Who We Are

A Nation
within a nation.

The Nation of Islam was founded on July 4, 1930, when Master W. Fard Muhammad appeared in Detroit, Michigan, and commissioned The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad — who led the Nation from 1934 to 1975. Mosque No. 78 carries that mission to the Magnolia State.

We are a body of Black men and women who believe in the One God Whose proper name is Allah, and in the mission of His servants — that we may rise into the full purpose of our creation: Truth, Justice, Freedom, and Equality.

On July 4, 1930, Master Fard Muhammad appeared in Detroit, Michigan and began teaching among our people. He raised up and commissioned The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, who from 1934 led the Nation of Islam for more than forty years — laboring to resurrect the Black man and woman of America mentally, morally, and spiritually. In September 1977, The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan undertook the rebuilding of that work and reestablished the Nation of Islam upon the foundation his teacher laid.

Mosque No. 78 is one of more than one hundred mosques and study groups of the Nation of Islam under the leadership of The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. In Jackson we hold weekly Sunday meetings, teach classes for the men and the women, carry the message to the imprisoned and the afflicted, and labor in the streets of the Magnolia State to do for self what others will not do for us.

Our work in Jackson is not a hobby. It is a divine assignment. We invite you — Black, Brown, Red, or otherwise of good will — to learn what Allah, through His Messenger, has revealed to a people once dead. Come and see for yourself.

§ 03 · The Flag of Islam

The Sun,
the Moon,
and the Star.

The Universal Flag of Islam bears the Sun, the Moon, and the Star — the symbols of the universe, and a banner of universal peace and harmony. Its four corners carry the words Freedom, Justice, Equality, and Islam.

  • SunThe symbol of Freedom.
  • MoonThe sign of Equality.
  • StarThe sign of Justice.
  • IslamSubmission to the will of Allah — the religion in which Freedom, Justice, and Equality are made one.

The Muslim
Program

First published in the pages of Muhammad Speaks by The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. These tenets remain the working program of the Nation of Islam — adopted, defended, and taught at Mosque No. 78.

This is the question asked most frequently by both the Whites and the Blacks. The answer to this question I shall state as simply as possible.

  1. 01

We want freedom. We want a full and complete freedom.

  2. 02

We want justice. Equal justice under the law. We want justice applied equally to all, regardless of creed or class or color.

  3. 03

We want equality of opportunity. We want equal membership in society with the best in civilized society.

  4. 04

We want our people in America whose parents or grandparents were descendants from slaves to be allowed to establish a separate state or territory of their own.

  5. 05

We want freedom for all believers of Islam now held in federal prisons. We want freedom for all Black men and women now under death sentence in innumerable prisons in the North as well as the South.

  6. 06

We want an immediate end to the police brutality and mob attacks against the so-called Negro throughout the United States.

  7. 07

As long as we are not allowed to establish a state or territory of our own, we demand not only equal justice under the laws of the United States, but equal employment opportunities — NOW!

  8. 08

We want the government of the United States to exempt our people from ALL taxation as long as we are deprived of equal justice under the laws of the land.

  9. 09

We want equal education — but separate schools up to 16 for boys and 18 for girls on the condition that the girls be sent to women's colleges and universities.

  10. 10

We want the religion of Islam taught without hindrance or suppression. These are some of the things that we, the Muslims, want for our people in North America.

  1. 01

We believe in the One God Whose proper name is Allah.

  2. 02

We believe in the Holy Qur'an and in the Scriptures of all the Prophets of God.

  3. 03

We believe in the truth of the Bible, but we believe that it has been tampered with and must be reinterpreted so that mankind will not be snared by the falsehoods that have been added to it.

  4. 04

We believe in Allah's Prophets and the Scriptures they brought to the people.

  5. 05

We believe in the resurrection of the dead — not in physical resurrection — but in mental resurrection. We believe that the so-called Negroes are most in need of mental resurrection.

  6. 06

We believe in the judgment. We believe this first judgment will take place in America.

  7. 07

We believe this is the time in history for the separation of the so-called Negroes and the so-called white Americans.

  8. 08

We believe in justice for all whether in God or not; we believe as others, that we are due equal justice as human beings.

  9. 09

We believe that the offer of integration is hypocritical and is made by those who are trying to deceive the Black peoples into believing that their 400-year-old open enemies of freedom, justice, and equality are, all of a sudden, their friends.

  10. 10

We believe that we who declared ourselves to be righteous Muslims, should not participate in wars which take the lives of humans.

  11. 11

We believe our women should be respected and protected as the women of other nationalities are respected and protected.

  12. 12

We believe that Allah (God) appeared in the Person of Master W. Fard Muhammad, July, 1930; the long-awaited "Messiah" of the Christians and the "Mahdi" of the Muslims.

A nation can rise no higher than its woman. The mosque is the seed-bed of a people — and the seed-bed of a people is the home.
